Get a Library Card
Who Can Get a Library Card
- Residents of Davenport.
- Davenport property owners residing outside city limits who do not have a home library.
- Children under the age of 14 (must have a parent or legal guardian co-sign their card application). Note that parents/legal guardians are responsible for all items borrowed on a minor's card.
How to Get a Library Card

Register now or apply in person at any Davenport Public Library location. Application information is confidential and is protected by Section 22.7(13) of the Code of Iowa and The Library's Confidentiality and Privacy Policy.

Valid ID: Adults may obtain a card by providing a valid ID that verifies their name and current Davenport street address. Children's applications must be co-signed by a parent/legal guardian showing valid ID if the child is under the age of 14. Many types of identification that include current address are acceptable, including the following:

Iowa Driver's License

Voter Registration Card

Imprinted checks

Pre-printed lease agreement

First Class mail in an envelope postmarked within the last 30 days, along with an ID that verifies name

Vehicle Registration Card

Payroll stub within the last 30 days that includes full name and address

Emailed utility bill on mobile phone from within the last 30 days that includes full name and address
Other Library Cards

Residents of the following Illinois towns: Moline, Rock Island, Silvis, Port Byron, East Moline, Sherrard, and Coal Valley. Bring your hometown library card and ID with your name and current street address.

Iowans whose library participates in Iowa Open Access.

Borrow by Mail
Homebound? The Library offers a Borrow by Mail option for Davenport residents! Funded by the FRIENDS of the Davenport Public Library, Borrow by Mail is intended for individuals unable to come to a Davenport Public Library location. All items are mailed free of charge but must be returned to a Davenport Public Library location or to an item return at a Hy-Vee store on Kimberly Road. To place an item on hold, visit The Library catalog and select Borrow By Mail as the pick-up location.
Curbside Pickup Service
Curbside pickup is available at the Main Library and the Eastern Branch (Fairmount Branch has a drive-up service window). When you receive notification that your items are ready, park in the spot labeled “Curbside" near the front of the building. Call or text the phone number posted on the sign and we will be out with your items! Be sure to have your library card ready!

How to Renew Items
Most materials may be renewed for an additional loan period if no one else has reserved them. The limit is one renewal per item. You may renew library materials in the following ways:
Autorenew
All eligible items checked out are renewed automatically one time. If you have chosen to be notified by The Library via email or text, you will receive an autorenewal notice. Items with holds, ineligible items and items that have already been renewed once do not automatically renew. Ineligible items include:
- Wireless Hotspots
- Community Experience Passes
- TechKnow Items
- Digital content (eBooks, digital magazines, etc.)
Online
- Go to The Library catalog.
- Click "Log In" at the top.
- Enter your library card number and passcode.
- Click on the "Log In" button.
- Click on the "Items Out" button.
